Enrollment information for Fall 2023

New batches of Bharathanatyam, Carnatic music, Kathak and Mrudangam lessons begin.

BHARATHANATYAM

Bharathanatyam is a classical dance form from India. It is one of the most technically advanced dance form, which is taught in a systematic way. This system of learning dance dates back to 2nd century BC.

KATHAK

Kathak is a North Indian classical dance, focusses mostly on footworks and pirouettes with million variety of rhythm patterns. It has the influence of both Hindu and Muslim cultures.

CARNATIC MUSIC

Carnatic Music is one of the most comprehensive way to learn music. It encompasses infinite loops of melodies and rhythm cycle, making it one of the most challenging art form; which needs to be learnt only under a Guru.  The basic 72 parent scales form the foundation of this music system.

MRUDANGAM

Mrudangam lessons are conducted once a week. It is a comprehensive training with rhythms from South India.

DURATION OF THE SEMESTER

Our classes run along with the school year. We conduct classes 18 weeks in fall and 24 weeks in spring seasons. Our school will be closed down in summer, unless a student attends the summer workshops.

FEE 

Current semester runs from August 15- Dec 22nd.

Our fee is  $115 for eight lessons  per month for dances / $80 for 4 lessons of singing classes per month. Individual one-to-one teaching is available upon request. There will be an additional performing fee of $170 will be expected from each student towards their performances.

    We start our lessons traditionally with prayers offering the God of Dances - Nataraja, to all teachers, to goddess Earth - Prthivi, and to goddess of learning - Saraswati

    (Meaning: guru or a teacher is like a creator brahma, protector like vishnu, destroyer like Shibva and also he is the embodiment of the unknown supreme god-head - parabrahma, I will bow my head to Guru's lotus feet. )

    samudravasane devi parvata stana mandhite

    vishnu patni namasthubhyam paadasparsham kshamaswame

    (Meaning: the one who wraps oceans as her cloth, whose chest lies in the peaks of mountains,   who is the wife of Lord MahaVishnu, please forgive me for touching and hitting you with my dancing feet, o Mother Earth)

    saraswati namasthubhyam varade kaamarupini

    vidya aarambham karishyami siddhir bhavatume sadaa

    (Meaning: O Saraswati Goddess, i will bow to you, you give boons, you are the one who can take any form. i am strating to learn, please give me success and bless me with achievement. )
